This week we’re looking at Jesus word to the sixth church in Asia Minor, the Church at Philadelphia in Revelation 3:7-13. Like Smyrna, Philadelphia escaped rebuke.
In this message, the church is challenged to endure by focusing on Jesus his promises. This church with “little power” would endure because Jesus and his gospel were central to their doctrine and conduct. We see here a church that endures.
Here are some things to pray in order to be a church (Christian) who endures:
- Pray for believers to focus on Jesus as our Lord and Master. Distracted churches are self-absorbed focusing on preferences and arguments. When we see Jesus as Master, we will worship and obey him.
- Pray for believers believe and proclaim Jesus’ gospel. We grow from the gospel. Our church grows through preaching/sharing the gospel. Gospel growth is a means of enduring as a church.
- Pray for believers to experience Jesus’ love and promises to endure. Jesus is our means of endurance and motivation to endure. Abiding in his love and believing his promises will help us to hold fast and be faithful.
- Pray for unbelievers to see the truth about Jesus and eternity. Jesus wants his church to endure because he wants his church to proclaim the gospel to sinners. The point of endurance is validating the truth and power of the gospel. Pray we would endure as we evangelize sinners. Pray sinners would see Jesus and come to believe the truth of the gospel.
May we be a church commended for endurance and evangelism.
