For Sunday, September 20, Wilkesboro Baptist will have a guest speaker, Dr. Will Brooks. Will and I were in doctoral studies together at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Will and his family went on to serve for a number of years with the International Mission Board in Asia. Not long after I came to Wilkesboro Baptist, Will shared with our church on a Wednesday night. Since then, the Brooks family has been part of our regular prayer partner schedule on Sunday mornings. Will has returned stateside where he is now serving as a professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
I asked Dr. Brooks to preach this fall as preparation for our annual mission offering at Wilkesboro Baptist. That offering will take place on Sunday October 4, and 100% of what is given will go to local and global mission partners (the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board among others).
Dr. Brooks will be preaching from Acts 17:16-34 a sermon entitled, “The Missionary Heart.” Here are some things I’m praying for this Sunday:
- Pray that we will develop a heart for unbelievers and a conviction to share the gospel with them.
- Pray that any unbelievers gathered with us on Sunday will experience conviction and turn to God in faith and repentance.
- Pray that God will encourage and motivate our Christian witness and mission at WBC to our neighbors and the nations.
- Pray especially for our mission team serving this week with Samaritan’s Purse in Burnsville, NC. Here are specific ways to pray for mission teams.
- Pray that God will raise up missionaries from WBC to our neighbors and the nations to spread God’s glory through his gospel.
- Pray that God would guide us in what to give for our upcoming mission offering.
- Pray for all the missionaries, like Will and his family, serving the our neighbors and the nations.
